Part of the 2020 series launched by the Banco Nacional de Angola, the 1,000 kwanza note was reprinted with a 2023 issue date incorporating enhanced security compared with the initial 2020 printing. The note is printed on polymer substrate for greater durability, with the portrait of Agostinho Neto — a poet, physician, and liberation leader — on the front, and the spectacular Kalandula Falls, one of Africa's largest waterfalls, on the back. Microtext of the national anthem 'Angola Avante' is applied across the note as an additional security and cultural element.
