The Banco Central de la República Argentina issued the 2,000 Pesos banknote on May 22, 2023, as a commemorative note honoring the development of science and medicine in Argentina. This represented the highest denomination banknote ever circulated in Argentine currency history at the time of issue. The note measures 155 mm x 65 mm and features a dark gray and pink color scheme with signatures of C. Moreau and Pesce.

The obverse prominently displays portraits of two pioneering figures in Argentine medicine: Dr. Cecilia Grierson (1859-1934), the first woman to graduate as a physician in Argentina (1889) and founder of Latin America's first formally structured nursing school; and Dr. Ramon Carrillo (1906-1956), Argentina's first Minister of Health (1946-1954). Additional obverse imagery includes molecular representations, a caduceus symbol in green-to-blue optically variable ink, and modern hospital buildings. The reverse depicts the National Institute of Microbiology in Buenos Aires, a leading research institution.

Dr. Grierson's pioneering work in obstetrics and nursing education established foundational standards for healthcare professionalism in Latin America, while Dr. Carrillo's tenure as Health Minister eliminated malaria, eradicated endemic diseases, and dramatically reduced infant mortality through public health innovation. The commemorative nature of this banknote distinguished it within Argentina's currency family and reflected the nation's commitment to honoring scientific achievement.
