500 Taka

Bangladesh Bank introduced the redesigned 500 Taka banknote on 4 December 2025, incorporating the nation's architectural and historical heritage into its design. The note predominates in green with red accents and features an optically variable ink element that shifts from green to blue when tilted. The obverse displays the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka, a powerful symbol of the 1952 Bengali Language Movement honoring students and activists who sacrificed their lives for recognition of Bangla as a state language, accompanied by the Shapla (national flower) rendered with leaves and buds in the background. The reverse depicts the Bangladesh Supreme Court building, representing the nation's judicial heritage. This note exemplifies the broader 2025–2026 redesign initiative removing Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's portraiture in favor of national monuments and cultural symbols.

The banknote measures 152 mm × 65 mm and bears the signature of Governor Ahsan H. Mansur. The design incorporates a comprehensive suite of ten security features, including a watermark of a Royal Bengal Tiger with bright electrotype numeral '500' and the Bangladesh Bank monogram. A woven security thread (4 mm wide) composed of red and bright golden bars shifts color from red to green upon movement, revealing '500 taka' text when held to light, while the golden bars transform into bright rainbow colors.
