The note features a portrait of John Redman Bovell (1855-1928), a pioneering scientist and agronomist whose genetic experiments with sugar cane varieties saved Barbados's vital sugar industry and established the island as a leading cane breeding station in the Caribbean. In 1908, Bovell was awarded the Imperial Service Star for his contributions to tropical agriculture. The obverse displays his portrait in blue with red elements. The reverse showcases the Morgan Lewis Windmill in St. Andrew, Barbados—the last sugar windmill to operate in the nation—representing the agricultural heritage that Bovell helped preserve. The polymer note includes advanced security features and was recognized as the 'Best New Series' at Reconnaissance International's Regional Banknote and ID Document Awards.
