The Central Bank of Barbados issued the $20 note in December 2022, honoring Samuel Jackman Prescod (1806–1871), one of Barbados's 10 National Heroes. Prescod was a pioneering political activist and journalist who used his editorship to agitate for social justice and equality. He became the first non-white member of the House of Assembly in 1843. The reverse showcases the historic Parliament Buildings. The $20 note features De La Rue's revolutionary SPOTLIGHT™ holographic stripe—a first for circulating banknotes worldwide. This interactive security feature sharpen under mobile phone torch light, providing enhanced anti-counterfeiting protection. The note includes a circle-shaped tactile emboss for accessibility.
