The Central Bank of Barbados issued the $5 note in December 2022 as part of its historic transition to polymer banknotes. The note celebrates Sir Frank Worrell (1924–1967), a cricket icon who pioneered West Indian cricket excellence alongside Sir Everton Weekes and Sir Clyde Walcott. The reverse showcases the 3Ws Oval, the cricket facility named after these three national heroes. The polymer note features advanced security technology including the De La Rue SPOTLIGHT™ holographic feature—images sharpen under mobile phone torch light and blur under diffuse lighting. This series was recognized as Best New Series at Reconnaissance International's Regional Banknote and ID Document Awards in 2023.
