The Central Bank of Barbados issued the $50 note in December 2022, celebrating Errol Barrow (1920–1987), one of Barbados's most beloved national figures. Barrow led the Democratic Labour Party to victory in 1961 and became the nation's first Prime Minister upon independence in 1966, serving until 1976. He is credited as the architect of modern Barbados. The reverse showcases Independence Square in Bridgetown with Barrow's statue, symbolizing his enduring legacy. The note features the innovative De La Rue SPOTLIGHT™ holographic stripe, providing advanced security through interactive visual effects. The L-shaped tactile emboss aids visually impaired users. When all six denominations are arranged sequentially, they collectively form a map of Barbados.
