The Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina issued the 20 KM Cyrillic-script note on July 27, 1998, completing the higher-denomination set in the dual-entity banknote system. The note features Filip Višnjić (1767–1847), a legendary Serbian folk poet and singer whose epic poems are cornerstones of South Slavic oral tradition. Višnjić represents the Serbian cultural heritage within Bosnia and Herzegovina's constitutionally mandated balance between Federation and Republika Srpska. The reverse displays a different medieval stećak design from the Federation variant, reflecting the two entities' distinct cultural narratives while maintaining currency unity. Both 20 KM variants—Latin and Cyrillic—are fully interchangeable throughout the country. Enhanced security features distinguish 2012+ issues from older notes. Pre-2012 issues ceased legal tender on January 1, 2025.
