The 2,000 Riel note was introduced on 14 November 2022 alongside the companion 200 Riel note as part of Cambodia's banknote family renewal. Prasat Tao (Lion Temple) is located within the Sambo Prei Kuk archaeological site — a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2017 — representing one of Southeast Asia's finest examples of pre-Angkorian Khmer architecture from the 7th century CE. Printed on cotton-paper fibre by De La Rue and measuring 146 x 68 mm, the note is sand-brown in colour and features the adult portrait of King Norodom Sihamoni on the obverse.
