The 5,000 Chilean Peso polymer note, printed by Note Printing Australia, has been issued since 2009 and the 2021 date reflects the current emission of the established series. Gabriela Mistral (1889–1957) was a Chilean poet, diplomat, and educator who became the first Latin American author to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature, awarded in 1945. Parque Nacional La Campana on the reverse is a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve in the Valparaiso Region and was visited by Charles Darwin in 1834.
