The People's Bank of China issued two 20 yuan commemorative banknotes on 21 December 2021 for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. e404 is the polymer (ice sports) version of the pair, complementing the paper snow-sports note (e403). It features figure skating — an ice sport — on the obverse, and the National Aquatics Center ('Ice Cube'), converted from its Summer Olympics swimming venue to a curling venue for the Winter Games, on the reverse. Both notes were issued as a set of 200 million, with the polymer note distinguishable by its transparent window and different serial-number prefix range.
