5.000 Pesos

The Banco Central de Cuba put the 5,000 Peso banknote into circulation on 1 April 2026, as part of a new family of high denominations introduced to cope with inflation and facilitate cash transactions. The note features Celia Sánchez Manduley, revolutionary of the Sierra Maestra and close collaborator of Fidel Castro — among the first appearances of a woman patriot on Cuban banknotes.

The note is predominantly blue. The obverse displays the portrait of Celia Sánchez together with the mariposa (white ginger lily), Cuba's national flower, while the reverse depicts the memorial dedicated to her in Lenin Park, Havana. Security elements include a watermark with her portrait and a security thread with a dynamic effect showing the denomination.
