1.000 Korun Českých

The Czech National Bank issued a limited commemorative 1,000 korun banknote in February 2023 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Czech currency independence, marking three decades since the Czechoslovak currency split following the dissolution of Czechoslovakia in 1993. The banknote is based on the standard 2008-dated 1,000 korun design featuring historian Frantisek Palacky on the obverse, renowned for his extensive historical writings about the Czech lands and their inhabitants, which earned him the title Father of the Nation.

The obverse also displays a linden leaf in green-to-gold Optically Variable Ink (OVI), a tree with exposed roots, and an open book symbolizing knowledge and historical scholarship. The reverse features a female eagle and Kromeriz Chateau alongside a stylized tree and the Czech coat of arms. What distinguishes this commemorative edition is the prominent 30th anniversary overprint in the lower left corner reading CNB 1993 (30) 2023, along with the official 30-year anniversary logo, the letters CNB, and the dates 1993 and 2023.

The Czech National Bank produced exactly 200,000 commemorative notes, released on February 8, 2023, with a purchase limit of 5 pieces per buyer. The overprint commemorates the peaceful separation of Czechoslovakia into the Czech Republic and Slovakia on January 1, 1993, known as the Velvet Divorce, and the introduction of the independent Czech koruna currency. This limited edition holds particular significance for Czech numismatists and reflects national pride in monetary sovereignty.
