5.000 Korun Českých

The 5,000 korun banknote issued in 2023 by the Czech National Bank features Tomas Garrigue Masaryk, the founding statesman and first president of the Czechoslovak Republic, honoring his role in establishing an independent Czech state after World War I. The dark blue note measures 170 x 74 mm and bears the signature of Czech National Bank Governor Michal Ales. The 2023 reprint maintains the artistic design of the 2009 version, representing continuity in the nation's currency design while incorporating necessary printing technology updates.

The Czech National Bank announced that this reprint involved necessary changes in printing technology implemented at the State Printing Office to improve currency tracking and enhance security against counterfeiting, though the differences resulting from new printing technology are not recognizable to the public with the naked eye. The banknote was printed by Statni tiskarna cenin (State Printing Office) in Prague, which has been producing Czech security documents since 1919.

The 5,000 korun note is the highest denomination in Czech circulation and plays an important role in significant financial transactions. The ČNB offered to exchange older 5,000 korun notes for the 2023 version free of charge, with both older and new versions remaining valid for circulation. Masaryk's image on this highest-value denomination reflects his foundational importance to Czech national identity and democratic traditions.
