The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank issued a historic commemorative $2 polymer banknote on December 1, 2023, to celebrate 40 years of the institution's establishment in 1983. The note honors Sir Isaac Vivian Viv Richards, the legendary West Indian cricketer known as The Master Blaster, whose portrait appears prominently on the obverse alongside a cricket bat and a conch shell representing the region's maritime heritage. The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank building in Basseterre, St. Kitts is also depicted on the obverse, anchoring the design to the institution itself.

The reverse features a vibrant coral reef scene with tropical fish and turtles, celebrating the Caribbean's natural marine ecosystems and biodiversity. Measuring 132 mm x 65 mm, the orange, blue, and black polymer banknote was signed by Timothy Antoine. The ECCB captured the prestigious 2023 Bank Note of the Year award from the International Bank Note Society (IBNS), as well as the Best Limited Circulation/Commemorative Banknote award from the International Association of Currency Affairs (IACA), recognizing its innovative design and cultural significance.

Sir Vivian Richards, born in Antigua and Barbuda and a member of the ECCB's member states, is widely considered one of the greatest cricket batsmen of all time. His appearance on the commemorative note reflects the Eastern Caribbean's pride in its sporting heritage and cultural icons. The polymer substrate ensures the commemorative note's durability as a lasting tribute to the ECCB's four decades of regional monetary service.
