The 20 Egyptian Pounds note exists in both paper (P-74) and polymer (P-82) formats. The paper definitive version, issued by the Central Bank of Egypt since 2016, features Muhammad Ali Mosque (also called the Alabaster Mosque) on its obverse. Built 1832-1857 within Cairo's Citadel by Muhammad Ali Pasha, this Ottoman-style mosque features a dramatic central dome and semi-domes, with alabaster cladding that creates a distinctive translucent glow throughout the day. The reverse depicts Pharaonic heritage with Ramesses II in a war chariot, ceremonial scenes from Karnak temple including pharaonic coronations and temple inauguration rituals, alongside stylized papyrus flowers and the Eye of Horus.

The paper note measures 155 x 70 mm in green, purple, pink, and brown. The 2025-dated variant represents the continuing paper series alongside polymer production initiated in June 2023. The polymer 20 Pounds (P-82, green) is the first Egyptian denomination in polymer material, featuring tactile emboss technology for visually impaired accessibility. Both formats remain valid circulation currency per Central Bank of Egypt statements. Security features on the paper note include a 1.5-mm solid security thread with demetallized denomination, a 4-mm windowed thread at left with Arabic text and coat of arms, and a watermark of Princess Nofret with electrotype.
