The 100 Birr is the highest regular denomination issued by the National Bank of Ethiopia, dated Ethiopian Year 2015 (equivalent to AD 2023), and represents a signature variant of the series introduced in 2020. The blue note measuring 147 x 72 mm showcases the Enqulab Gemb fortress in Gondar — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — alongside a lion's head on the obverse, while the reverse depicts the Sof Omar Caves (the largest cave system in Africa) and the gates of the historic walled city of Harar. The security thread is a 4-mm Rolling Star windowed thread.
