100 Cents

The Reserve Bank of Fiji released a special 100 cents commemorative banknote on August 8, 2023, making it the world's first 100-cent Year of the Dragon commemorative banknote and the world's first plastic banknote with a 100-cent denomination. This non-circulating numismatic note is printed on SAFEGUARD polymer substrate by De La Rue and measures 145 mm x 70 mm. While the note has legal tender status, it is intended for collectors with a local selling price of FJD 30 and a limited production of 950,000 units.

The obverse features a hibiscus flower, the national coat of arms, and a gold-to-green optically variable ink (OVI) hibiscus flower. The reverse displays a stylized dragon with clouds, a red lantern, and the Reserve Bank of Fiji logo, celebrating the Chinese cultural tradition of the lunar calendar's Year of the Dragon. The note employs De La Rue's patented Spotlight, PureImage, and Depth technologies in its production.

A distinctive feature is the half-window foil strip containing a pseudo relief laser gold numeral, a coral fish that moves when tilted, and animated colorful decorative motifs. The Fiji 100 Cents note represents a creative approach to commemorative currency, using a denomination not typically associated with banknotes to create a unique collector's item bridging Pacific Island culture with Chinese heritage traditions.
