Fiji 88 Cents

Authorised on 12 June 2022 and released for purchase on 8 August 2022 — a date chosen for its association with the lucky number 8 in Chinese culture — the 88-cent note is a non-circulating numismatic collector's piece and the world's first banknote denominated at 88 cents. The denomination 88 references the Taoist belief that the number 8 (pronounced 'fa' in Chinese, meaning 'fortune') is doubly auspicious. A maximum of 3.6 million notes were produced; the note remains legal tender in Fiji and can be exchanged at the Reserve Bank.
