200 Dalasis

The Central Bank of The Gambia released the 200 Dalasis banknote in 2023 as the highest denomination in its modernized 2019-2023 currency series. This orange polymer note measures 139 mm x 77 mm and was printed by De La Rue, bearing the signatures of Jallow and Saidy (signature 19). The denomination represents the largest circulating value in current Gambian currency.

The obverse features two standing double-spurred spurfowl (bush fowl) birds, a gold-to-green SPARK Orbital optically variable ink patch shaped like a bush fowl, two standing bush fowls as registration devices, and the national coat of arms. The bush fowl serves as the visual anchor of the entire denomination series, appearing as registration marks on all notes and taking center stage on the highest value. The reverse depicts two workers harvesting rice by hand, representing Gambia's agricultural economy and rural traditions.

Rice farming is central to Gambian food culture, with rice being the country's staple food and a primary agricultural activity particularly among women farmers in the rural regions. The SPARK Orbital OVI on the 200 Dalasis note is one of the most advanced security features in the series, creating a shimmering gold-to-green orbital effect when the note is tilted, providing both visual appeal and anti-counterfeiting protection for this highest-value denomination.
