Georgia 20 Lari

The 20 lari banknote of 2021 emission was released into circulation on 1 July 2021 alongside the 5 lari note. The design mirrors the preceding series, with a carefully adjusted background tonality to differentiate it more clearly from adjacent denominations. Ilia Chavchavadze (1837–1907) was the pre-eminent figure of Georgian national revival — a poet, journalist, publisher, and statesman who founded influential newspapers and is canonised as a saint by the Georgian Orthodox Church. The Narikala fortress on the reverse traces its origins to the 4th century AD.
