Guatemala 100 Quetzales

Banco de Guatemala presented this commemorative 100-quetzal note on 18 May 2026, with general circulation beginning 25 May 2026, printed by Polish state security printer PWPW S.A. on 100% cotton paper in a run of 15 million pieces. The note simultaneously marks three anniversaries: 100 years of central banking in Guatemala (monetary reform of 1926), 80 years since Banco de Guatemala's founding (1946), and 350 years since the establishment of Universidad de San Carlos de Borromeo (1676). The obverse features a portrait of Bishop Francisco Marroquín (1478–1563), Guatemala's first bishop, together with a flying quetzal bird. The reverse depicts the historic building of the Universidad de San Carlos. Security features include a windowed security thread with colour-shift from green to blue, Mayan microtext, watermark of Marroquín, Braille tactile elements, latent imagery, and optically variable ink.
