The 1000 gourdes note was originally introduced in 1999 to mark the 250th anniversary of the founding of Port-au-Prince; the 2021 date is a re-issue for continued circulation. Florvil Hyppolite (1828–1896), the 15th President of Haiti, is commemorated for his efforts to modernize the country's infrastructure. Marché Vallière on the reverse represents the vibrant commercial life of the Haitian capital.
