The 25 gourdes note is part of Haiti's ongoing commemorative series honoring independence heroes, re-dated 2021 as the Banque de la République d'Haïti updated its circulation notes with enhanced security features. Nicolas Geffrard (1762–1806) was a key military figure of the Haitian War of Independence and a signatory of the 1804 Act of Independence. The Fortress of Des Platons was a strategic stronghold during the independence struggle.
