Iran placed its 1,000,000 rial cash cheque (equivalent to 100 tomans) into circulation on 12 September 2022, as an emergency measure responding to a severe shortage of high-denomination physical currency during a period of accelerating inflation. Printed by TAKAB, the note carries dual denominations — 1,000,000 rials and 100 tomans — reflecting Iran's multi-year transition from the rial to the toman as the official currency name. The Tachara Palace, a ceremonial hall of Darius the Great at the Achaemenid UNESCO World Heritage site of Persepolis, appears on the obverse, linking modern Iran with its pre-Islamic imperial heritage.
