5.000 Dinars

The Central Bank of Iraq issued the 5,000 dinar banknote in 2023 (AH1445) as part of its ongoing modernized circulation series. This purple, blue, and orange note measures 159 mm x 78 mm and bears the signature of Mustafa Ghaleb Mokhif. The obverse side showcases a green-to-blue SPARK feature alongside the iconic Gali Ali Beg waterfall in Kurdistan, which cascades dramatically through a narrow limestone gorge in the Bradost Mountains of Erbil Governorate. The reverse depicts the desert fortress of Al-Ukether, an important Abbasid-era historical structure in Iraq's Wasit Governorate.

Gali Ali Beg is one of Kurdistan's most celebrated natural landmarks, with the waterfall plunging approximately 13 meters into a turquoise pool surrounded by lush mountain vegetation. The inclusion of this Kurdish landscape on the national currency reflects Iraq's recognition of the region's natural heritage as part of the country's shared identity. Al-Ukether fortress, dating from the early Islamic period, represents Iraq's layered historical legacy from ancient Mesopotamia through the Islamic caliphate era.

The note incorporates modern security features designed to prevent counterfeiting while maintaining accessibility for visually impaired users. Tactile marks allow blind users to identify the denomination by touch, reflecting the Central Bank's commitment to inclusive currency design. The SPARK security element provides a dynamic color-shifting effect visible to the naked eye, enabling rapid authentication in everyday transactions.
