50.000 Dinars

The Central Bank of Iraq released the 50,000 dinar banknote in 2023 (AH1445), representing the highest denomination for significant transactions. Measuring 156 mm x 65 mm, this brown, green, yellow, and blue note features the signature of Ali Mohsen Ismail Al-Alaq. The obverse presents an Assyrian jar with a blue-to-green SPARK element, a traditional water wheel (nooria) on the Euphrates River, and the Gali Ali Beg waterfall, connecting Iraq's modern currency to its ancient Mesopotamian civilization that stretches back over 5,000 years.

The reverse depicts fishermen poling traditional mashoof canoes through the southern marshes, water buffaloes wading in the water, and the distinctive reed houses (mudhif) of the Marsh Arabs, representing the traditional life of the Mesopotamian marshlands. The Iraqi Marshes, located at the confluence of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, were recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2016 for their cultural and ecological significance. This ancient ecosystem, once nearly destroyed by drainage projects, has been partially restored and remains home to communities maintaining traditions unchanged for millennia.

The banknote is printed on hybrid substrate, blending traditional artistic elements with contemporary security technology. The Assyrian jar depicted on the obverse draws from Iraq's pre-Islamic heritage and archaeological richness, symbolizing cultural continuity from ancient Mesopotamia through to contemporary Iraq.
