The 1 Dinar note was the first denomination to enter circulation in Jordan's fifth banknote series, introduced on 30 December 2022 — the first complete redesign of Jordanian currency since 2002. Designed by Jordanian architect and banknote designer Ammar Khammash, each denomination in the series depicts a different Hashemite ruler on the obverse paired with a Jordanian natural or archaeological landmark on the reverse. The note honors Sharif Hussein Ibn Ali (1854–1931), Sharif of Mecca who proclaimed the Great Arab Revolt against Ottoman rule in 1916 and became King of the Hejaz. The reverse celebrates the Sinai rosefinch, Jordan's national bird, found near the rose-red city of Petra and in Wadi Rum.
