This commemorative 20,000 Tenge banknote was issued on 16 December 2021 by the National Bank of Kazakhstan to mark the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan's independence from the Soviet Union (1991–2021). It was the first banknote to incorporate the latest iteration of De La Rue's SPARK technology, which appears three-dimensional but is flat to the touch. The note was a candidate in the International Bank Note Society's Banknote of the Year competition for 2021.
