The 1,000 Shillings note was issued in August 2024 as the flagship denomination of the Central Bank of Kenya's upgraded banknote series. The obverse displays the Kenyatta International Convention Centre with Nairobi skyline, the national coat of arms, a peace dove, and one of Kenya's Big Five animals. The reverse features a sophisticated aerial perspective of Kenya's Parliament building, symbolizing national governance and the sovereignty of the people. The brown banknote with maroon and multicolored underprint incorporates cutting-edge security features including the RollingStar i+ thread with magenta-to-green color-shifting properties and the ZigZag dynamic movement effect that creates a mesmerizing visual security element when the note is tilted. Produced by Giesecke & Devrient (G&D), the 2024 series received international recognition for its innovative security features, winning the Best New Series of Banknotes award in February 2025.
