Kenya 500 Shillings

The 500 Shillings note was issued in August 2024 by the Central Bank of Kenya as part of a series recognizing four major updates including new signatures and enhanced security features. The obverse features the iconic Kenyatta International Convention Centre monument alongside the Nairobi skyline, Kenya's national coat of arms, and a shield with dove symbolizing peace. The reverse showcases Kenya's tourism heritage with depictions of national parks, wildlife, and sandy beaches featuring the simba (lion). The note incorporates advanced RollingStar i+ security threads with brilliant color-shifting properties and the distinctive ZigZag dynamic movement effect on the embedded security thread, creating an illusion of fluid motion when tilted. Printed by Giesecke & Devrient (G&D), the 2024 series won the Best New Series of Banknotes award at the HSP-EMEA Conference in Basel, Switzerland in February 2025.
