The 200 Maloti banknote was officially released on December 23, 2021, as the highest denomination in Lesotho's redesigned currency series, featuring King Moshoeshoe I on the obverse alongside the national coat of arms and Mokorotlo symbol. The reverse depicts a traditional Lesotho merchant of handicrafts mounted on horseback, carrying merchandise across the mountainous landscape. Measuring 160 mm x 69 mm, the highest dimension in the series, the note showcases the most advanced security features including the RollingStar dynamic security thread with color-shifting properties creating brilliant light effects when tilted. Additional security elements comprise a watermark of King Moshoeshoe I, tactile parallel lines for the visually impaired, the distinctive Mokorotlo registration device, and SICPA Protect anti-bacterial and anti-viral varnish coating. Uniquely, the 200 Maloti was manufactured using sustainable materials comprising 75% Cotton Made in Africa and 25% FSC-certified wood pulp through the ADDvance hybrid substrate, representing Lesotho's commitment to environmentally responsible currency production.
