The 2,000 Rupee note features Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam (1900-1985), a distinguished Mauritian politician, statesman, and philanthropist who served as the island's first Chief Minister, Prime Minister, and Governor-General, earning recognition as the father of Mauritian independence. The obverse displays his portrait at left with the Mauritius coat of arms and blindfolded Lady Justice holding balance scales and sword. The reverse depicts a man with an ox cart carrying sugarcane, reflecting Mauritius's agricultural heritage and sugar industry that formed the backbone of the colonial economy. A polymer version released in 2018 features a transparent window with a dodo and Swing security feature visible from both sides.
