North Macedonia 1.000 Denari

Dated July 2022 and signed by Governor Anita Angelovska Bezhoska, the brown 1,000-denar note (152 x 70 mm) showcases the world-renowned medieval religious art and architecture of Ohrid, a UNESCO World Heritage city. The Madonna Episkepsis ('the Overseer') is among the most celebrated Byzantine icons in the Balkans, housed in the Church of Saints Clement and Panteleimon. The 11th-century Church of Saint Sophia's distinctive arcaded nave on the reverse represents a pinnacle of Byzantine architecture in the region.
