The Bank of Papua New Guinea issued this commemorative 100 Kina polymer banknote in January 2026 to honor Sir Julius Chan, the nation's founding finance minister, second Prime Minister, and father of the Kina and Toea currency. The obverse features the National Parliament building in Port Moresby alongside the national coat of arms depicting a bird of paradise perched on a Kundu drum and ceremonial spear.

The reverse introduces a portrait of Sir Julius Chan accompanied by symbols of Papua New Guinea's maritime trading heritage: a New Ireland shark caller, a lakatoi sailing vessel, a toea armband and a kina breast ornament, representing the commerce networks that predate the modern currency.

Manufactured on Guardian polymer substrate by Note Printing Australia, the note measures 150 × 70 mm and incorporates a watermark-style feature with the bank logo, a security thread, and tactile elements for accessibility. It entered circulation on 28 January 2026 and is legal tender alongside the existing denominations.
