The Peru 50 Soles banknote was officially authorized in 2021 as part of a new banknote family launched by the Banco Central de Reserva del Peru to honor important 20th-century Peruvian figures from science and culture. Maria Rostworowski (1915–2016) was a pioneering historian and researcher of Andean civilization and the Inca Empire, whose work transformed understanding of pre-Hispanic Peru. Printed by De La Rue International Limited, the note is red in color and measures 140 x 65 mm; it is notable for its vertical reverse design — the first time this orientation was used in the Peruvian sol series.
