50 Piso
The Philippine 50 Piso polymer banknote, first issued in 2024 and continuing into 2025, features the Visayan leopard cat (Prionailurus bengalensis rabori) on its obverse, replacing the former portrait of President Sergio Osmeña. The note showcases Vidal's lanutan (Hibiscus campylosiphon), an endemic flower, on the front, while the reverse retains Taal Lake and the giant trevally fish. The Visayan leopard cat, endemic to the islands of Negros, Cebu, and Panay, is depicted as a symbol of independence and agility in Filipino culture.
As part of the First Philippine Polymer (FPP) Banknote Series launched by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas on December 19, 2024, this polymer note began circulation on December 23, 2024, in the Greater Manila area. The shift from presidential portraits to endangered fauna reflects the BSP's commitment to raising awareness about the country's rich biodiversity and the need for conservation of endemic species.
