Philippines 500 Piso

The Philippine 500 Piso polymer banknote, issued in 2024 and continuing into 2025, features the Visayan spotted deer (Rusa alfredi) on its gold obverse, replacing the former portraits of President Corazon Aquino and Senator Benigno Aquino Jr. The obverse also displays the Acanthephippium mantinianum orchid. The reverse side features the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, along with the blue-naped parrot and southern Philippine weave design. The Visayan spotted deer is one of the world's rarest deer species, endemic to the rainforests of Panay and Negros islands.

Introduced as part of the First Philippine Polymer (FPP) Banknote Series launched on December 19, 2024, this note began circulation on December 23, 2024. The use of this critically endangered endemic species underscores the BSP's commitment to biodiversity conservation and raising public awareness of the Philippines' unique and threatened wildlife heritage.
