The 60 Tala commemorative banknote was issued by the Central Bank of Samoa on May 31, 2024, to mark two historic events simultaneously: the 60th anniversary of Samoa's independence (attained from New Zealand on January 1, 1962) and the hosting of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Apia. The note's denomination of 60 directly mirrors the anniversary being celebrated. It carries a 'New Dawn' theme reflecting Samoa's entry into a new era, symbolized in part by the election of Fiame Naomi Mata'afa as the country's first female prime minister. The note won the title of Best Commemorative Banknote of the Year at the High Security Printing Asia awards.
