The $5 note is part of the Portrait Series, Singapore's fourth series of currency notes issued by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), first released in polymer form on 18 May 2007. The obverse displays Yusof bin Ishak alongside the Singapore Coat of Arms and the gold-ringed cowrie motif, while the reverse showcases the Garden City theme with the iconic 200-year-old tembusu tree from the Singapore Botanic Gardens and Singapore's national flower, Vanda Miss Joaquim. The 2023 date edition continues the established Portrait Series design on Safeguard polymer substrate.
