The 200 Rand note entered circulation on 4 May 2023 as the highest denomination in the SARB's Eighth Series upgrade, completing South Africa's most recent banknote security enhancement programme. The obverse displays Mandela's portrait flanked by constitutional preamble text and flag rings, with two leopards rendered in SPARK Live Truspin colour-shifting ink. The reverse depicts a mother leopard and her cub, continuing the family-group design philosophy of the Eighth Series and symbolising the leopard as the most elusive of the Big Five, printed on cotton-substrate paper measuring 152 x 70 mm.
