The Central Bank of Sudan introduced the 1,000-pound denomination on 7 June 2022 — then the highest denomination in circulation — to address acute inflationary pressures. A modified variant dated August 2023 was released with an updated signature, retaining the same agricultural design: sorghum plants, grain silos, a sunflower, and a flower registration device on the obverse, and sorghum with farmers, cattle, and a waterfall on the reverse. The note (160 x 74 mm) uses predominantly blue and yellow tones.
