The 500 Sudanese Pounds note belongs to the Central Bank of Sudan's current circulation series, with the original design introduced in 2019 and this 2022 printing designated P-80a.3. As the second-highest standard denomination, it reflects Sudan's economic ambitions, with the obverse showcasing the NTC Tower as a symbol of the country's telecommunications infrastructure and the reverse celebrating the petroleum industry, which was a dominant sector of Sudan's economy before the secession of oil-rich South Sudan in 2011. The 2022 issue represents a continuation of the same design with updated security features and printing dates.
