Tajikistan 100 Somoni

The National Bank of Tajikistan issued this commemorative 100 Somoni banknote on October 30, 2025, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the introduction of the somoni as Tajikistan's national currency (2000-2025). This represents the first commemorative paper currency in the history of independent Tajikistan and was officially recognized as the best commemorative banknote in the world at the international High Security Printing competition in 2025.

The obverse features the portrait of Ismoili Somoni (also known as Ismoil Somoni), the founder of the first centralized Tajik state during the 9th century, rendered with text in the Tajik language. The design includes six concave hexadecagons, the National Bank of Tajikistan logo as a registration device, the official 25th-anniversary emblem, the Samanid Mausoleum (the historic tomb of Ismoili Somoni in Bukhara), and the national coat of arms.

The reverse depicts the newly constructed Parliament building of Tajikistan alongside the national flag, with text in both English and Tajik languages. The paper banknote measures 156 × 65 mm with color tones in light blue, dark blue, pink, red, and green.

Produced by Giesecke & Devrient, this banknote features a 6-mm purple-orange RollingStar Venus windowed security thread with demetalized marks—the first banknote worldwide to incorporate such a thread with MotifFlip and ColorFlip optical effects.
