200 Somoni

The Tajikistan 200 Somoni banknote, dated 2024, is part of the National Bank of Tajikistan's currency modernization initiative to improve money quality, enhance anti-counterfeiting protection, and meet the nation's cash circulation needs. The obverse features a portrait of Nusratullo Maksum (1881-1937), a prominent Tajik-Soviet politician honored as a Tajikistani National Hero and recipient of the Order of the Red Banner. Maksum served as a member of the Central Executive Committee of the USSR before becoming a victim of the Great Purge in the 1930s. The obverse also displays an ancient settlement, the National Emblem, and the denomination.

The reverse of the note illustrates the National Library of Tajikistan, an architectural landmark located in Dushanbe. This nine-story building, officially opened in 2012, spans 45,000 square meters and contains approximately 10 million books, making it the largest library in Central Asia. The reverse also displays the Tajikistan national flag and the denomination. The note measures 159 mm x 68 mm and features a brown and yellow color scheme on a multicolor underprint.

The issuance of new 200 and 500 Somoni notes demonstrates the National Bank of Tajikistan's commitment to providing modern banknotes that serve the population and businesses while protecting against counterfeiting. These denominations represent important mid-to-high range values within Tajikistan's currency system, facilitating both everyday and significant financial transactions.
