First introduced in 2019, the 1,000 hryvnia note was updated on 20 July 2023. Volodymyr Vernadsky (1863-1945), founder of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences and a global pioneer of geochemistry, is portrayed on the obverse, while the reverse shows the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences. The 2023 update added the wartime patriotic slogan in dark-brown ink and enhanced the SPARK optically variable element to reinforce the note's security profile during the period of the Russian invasion.
