The 1,000 hryvnia denomination was first introduced on 25 October 2019 as the highest-value hryvnia note. The 2021 print-date version entered circulation on 7 December 2021 and carries the same design: a portrait of Volodymyr Vernadsky (1863-1945), founder and first president of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, on the obverse, and the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine on the reverse. The note measures 75 x 160 mm and is printed on light-blue tinted paper with more than 20 security features.
