The 100 Hryvnia 2022 banknote entered circulation on December 19, 2022, as an updated commemorative issue retaining the design of the 2014 series but incorporating the printed logotype '30th Anniversary of Ukraine's Independence' in optically variable ink. It was issued against the backdrop of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, making it a symbol of national resilience as well as heritage. Taras Shevchenko (1814–1861) is the founding figure of modern Ukrainian literature and national identity; his poetry collection 'Kobzar' is among the most widely translated works of Ukrainian culture. The university on the reverse was named after Shevchenko in 1939 on the 125th anniversary of his birth.
