The UAE 1,000 Dirhams polymer banknote was officially released into circulation on April 10, 2023, with 2024 dated versions continuing in circulation. The note is manufactured on SAFEGUARD polymer substrate, a durable and ecologically responsible material developed by De La Rue. The central bank projects that polymer banknotes will remain in circulation for approximately five to seven years, approximately three to four times longer than traditional textile-based notes.

The obverse features a portrait of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father of the UAE, alongside an image of a model space shuttle symbolizing the nation's technological aspirations and forward-thinking vision. The reverse depicts the Barakah nuclear power plant in Abu Dhabi, representing the UAE's commitment to clean energy and technological advancement.

The banknote incorporates the Spark Flow Dimension optical security feature developed by Koenig and Bauer, making the UAE the first nation globally to employ this cutting-edge security technology on a mainstream banknote issue. The 1,000 Dirham denomination features the largest surface-applied multi-color KINEGRAM aluminum stripe of any banknote globally, providing an exceptionally high level of anti-counterfeiting protection for this highest-value denomination.
