50 Dirhams

The Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates issued this polymer commemorative 50 Dirham banknote on 7 December 2021, marking the UAE's Golden Jubilee — the 50th anniversary of the founding union of 2 December 1971. The obverse features the seven founding fathers holding the national flag immediately after signing the union document, an iconic moment in the nation's history.

The reverse displays Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, founder of the union, signing the historic agreement, with the Etihad Museum in the background, together with the Martyrs' Memorial (Wahat Al Karama).

The note was the UAE's first polymer banknote, printed on De La Rue's SAFEGUARD substrate by Oumolat Security Printing in the UAE. With a violet and blue color scheme and measuring 151 × 64 mm, it incorporates a KINEGRAM COLORS multicolored foil security stripe visible on both sides and Braille embossing for accessibility. It remains in circulation alongside the regular denominations.
